How is time and a half calculated?

Time and a half is calculated by multiplying your regular hourly base wage by 1.5. For example, if you earn $20.00 per hour, your overtime rate is $30.00 per hour ($20 × 1.5).

When does overtime pay kick in in the United States?

Under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), overtime is required for non-exempt hourly employees after working 40 hours in a defined 7-day workweek. Some states, like California, also require overtime after 8 hours in a single workday.
